Posta merchants go on indefinite strike to protest heckling of its office bearers
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched a massive, coordinated search operation on Friday morning, targeting the residential and commercial properties of prominent betel nut merchant Ashok Adhikari in the Manipur area of Nabadwip, Nadia. Investigators arrived at the businessman's residence at approximately five in the morning, accompanied by a heavy contingent of central armed police forces. The paramilitary jawans quickly cordoned off the entire perimeter, creating a secure tactical envelope around the main house and its adjacent storage facilities before the investigative agency's field operatives initiated their formal search inside.
Adhikari is widely recognized as a highly influential entity within the regional commodities market, operating an expansive supply and logistics network that stretches across West Bengal, Assam, and Tripura. Given his long-standing presence and extensive commercial operations in the region, the sudden arrival of central federal investigators sparked widespread public curiosity and tension throughout the local neighborhood. Law enforcement units and financial experts spent several hours inspecting structural layouts, matching physical cargo inventories, and opening administrative lockers to look for hidden operational trails within the large-scale merchant compound.
According to agency sources, the raids were executed to gather hard evidence in connection with an active, cross-state money laundering and illicit financial routing investigation. The specialized search teams also brought along banking representatives and financial auditing experts to facilitate the rapid, real-time verification of multiple corporate accounts, transactional history logs, and physical asset deeds found on-site. While central force personnel remained heavily deployed on the streets outside to prevent any local disruptions, the ED teams methodically collected and categorized key financial books for potential legal seizure, with neither the agency nor Adhikari's family issuing a formal press statement.
